Holy Week Schedule
Holy Week (April 9-16) is the heart of the Christian sacred year. You don’t want to miss Easter, of course, but your worship of the risen Christ will be deepened by observing the other commemorations of Jesus’ last week.
Maundy Thursday – at Center Church – 7 pm. Here we will solemnly commemorate the Last Supper, the origin of our sacrament of communion. This is a tenebrae service, during which the candles and lights are gradually extinguished as we hear of Jesus’ betrayal and arrest.
Good Friday – 4:00 pm. New this year. This service will be informal, with simple sung music and readings that will not compete with the power of Center Church’s Maundy Thursday service. But it is an additional service to contemplate the deepest mystery of the cross and death of Jesus.
Easter Sunday: Two very different services (come to both!)
Sunrise Service – 7 am: This year’s service will be dramatically different, because it will follow directly from the all-night Holy Saturday Vigil being kept by our confirmation class. We will begin at the door of the church, and hear the announcement of the empty tomb. Then we will process around the church with the Christ Candle, as we hear readings about God’s fulfillment of promises, and we will also rededicate the church building to the Risen Christ. Then, with simple music, we enter the dark church, each with a lit candle, and prepare the church for our Easter celebration. We will commemorate baptism and receive Holy Communion. There will be no full sermon at this service.
Regular Easter Worship – 10 am. A service of Word and Sacrament.
