Holy Week Worship

Holy Week (March 25-April 1) is when the whole pageant of mystery surrounding Jesus’ death and resurrection comes into intense focus.  We will offer many chances to mark the week with worship.  The more of these special services you take advantage of, the richer your experience of Easter will be.  I promise!

Sunday, March 25: Palm and Passion Sunday. The 10 am service begins with commemorating Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.  (And we’re working on some special, original music.)  Then the mood shifts as we foresee the dreadful destiny that is coming to Jesus, and we place our palms on the cross.

Maundy Thursday Communion Service (March 29), 7 pm: joint worship with Center Church of South Hadley: A Tenebrae service in which we recall the original Last Supper with readings, as the church grows darker.  We will recreate the practice of our Protestant ancestors, who used to receive the Lord’s Supper seated at the table.

Good Friday Service (March 30), 4 pm: An informal but traditional service that places us face to face with the great and glorious mystery of Jesus’ crucifixion.

Holy Saturday (March 31): Starting at 10 pm, we will begin an hour-by-hour prayer vigil culminating in the 7 am Easter morning service.  Please contact us if you want to participate.

On Easter Sunday (April 1) we offer two services:

7:00 am Great Easter Vigil service. A special and dramatic greeting of Easter based on an ancient service of fire, word, water, and supper.  We will process into the dark church bringing the light of the risen Christ.  And then have waffles in the Parish Hall!

10:00 am Easter Service following our typical Word and Sacrament (communion) format.  All are welcome to receive communion, for Christ died for all.

Following the 10:00 service, we’ll have an Easter egg hunt for children.
